Miami, Fl, April 10, 2018– The Aesthetics & Values (A&V) class of FIU’s Honors College is excited to announce its contemporary art exhibit coming to the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum this summer. Its opening reception will be free for admission on April 21 st from 4-7 PM. The exhibit will feature Miami-Based artists and be located at 10975 SW 17th St, Miami, FL 33199.
The work of artists Jennifer Basile, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, Brookhart Jonquil, Karen Rifas, David Rohn, TM Sisters, Gerry Stecca, Purvis Young, and Tom Virgin will all be on display. Together, their pieces form a combination of sculptures, paintings, and installations aimed to immerse its audience in a state of philosophical and political contemplation.
The students of A&V are the sole curators, organizers, and architects of this event. Professor John Bailly immersed them in two semesters of contemporary art education. In Untitled Miami Beach art fair 2017, the class collaborated with the Estate of Gordon Matta-Clark to create the piece Garbage Wall. One of the student-curators, Michelle Gonzalez, expressed that “this class was probably one of the most immersive in FIU. It inspires students like myself to pursue a dream entirely; to seek opportunities instead of standing by.” Juan Carlos Espinosa, Dean of the FIU Honor’s College, adds, “I have watched A&V grow from a modest exhibition on the second floor of the Green Library to the blockbuster show… that brings together some of the top artists in South Florida.”
After a year of diving into the world of art and realizing its influence on who we are, the students are pleased to extend the hand of immersion to the greater Miami community.

A&V is a seminar under FIU’s Honors College taught by professor and artist John W. Bailly. Bailly’s vision is that “the Aesthetics & Values seminar examines the vital role visual art plays in the social and cultural dialogue surrounding controversial issues.” A&V exhibitions are an annual project organized by each class. This year’s exhibit will mark the 12 th and last year of A&V.
Aesthetics & Values 2018 is sponsored by Bacardi, Da Burger Shop, Del Pelson, Harmless Harvest Coconut Water, My Cosmetic Surgery, PDQ, Publix Supermarkets, and Skin Associates of South Florida.
