A&V Research Project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION Student-Curators must produce a research project about their respective artist. These are loose guidelines to help student-curators with their papers/videos about their selected artist. These are as suggestions and questions all students should consider when completing their research. Students, however, are offered considerable freedom in the structure of their individual projects. They can emphasize certain points, as well as introduce others.

Provide biographical information about the artist (origin, education, cultural heritage,…)
Interview the artist! This is required. Include quotes that you have obtained directly from the artist.
Mention key figures of personal importance (teachers, mentors, friends,…)
Place the artist’s work in a art historical context (direct and indirect influences)
Place the work in a cultural context
Place the work in a contemporary context (Does the artist identify with a particular artistic movement?)
Describe how the artist uses the formal elements of art (line, shape, form, texture, color, composition)
How do the formal elements relate to the content of the artist’s work?
Mention changes the artist’s work has undergone (both conceptual and stylistic)
Describe the current work the artist in doing. Is it unique? Innovative? How?
How does the artist’s work relate to a broader social and cultural context?
What was your experience working with the artist?

NOTE: Video projects should be in the format of a documentary. DO NOT simply interview the artist. Interview art critics, art historians, and/or A&V students. Include a variety of types of footage.

FORMAT Videos documentaries should not exceed 10 minutes in length.

Videos must be uploaded onto the internet, on Vimeo, Facebook or Youtube (free). Please make sure to test your upload prior to attending class.

CITATIONS Similar to a research paper, all sources must be cited for a film project. If you utilize an existing film for inspiration or incorporate clips or pictures from someone else, you cite those sources in your film credits. Failure to do is plagiarism.
