Professor Bailly works with Teaching Assistants/Peer Mentors. The position is unpaid, however it does offer benefits. This assistantship is for the Spring semester in Miami, and does NOT involve travel abroad.
TEACHING ASSISTANT/PEER MENTOR FOR STUDY ABROAD SPRING
John William Bailly is a Professor in the FIU Honors College and the Artist-in-Residence Fellow at the Deering Estate. This Teaching Assistantship will see the TA manage and coordinate a group of 15-18 students.
There are three positions to fill: France, Italia, and España.
The Teaching Assistant will be registered for the free, zero credit IDH 3999. IDH 3999 does not count against earned credit but will be on the student’s official transcript.
REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDY ABROAD SPRING TAS
TA must be a current FIU student (undergraduate or graduate).
TA must have previously completed a class with Bailly.
TA can not be registered in a class with Bailly in the same semester.
BENEFITS FOR STUDY ABROAD SPRING TAS
TA will attend all class excursions for free – Downtown Miami, Vizcaya, Deering, South Beach.
TA will earn real life teaching experience in the field.
TA will will guarantee a personalized and substantive letter of recommendation and add a great line on their resume, upon successful completion of the assistantship.
The TA will have the opportunity to develop contacts within FIU and Miami-Dade County.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR STUDY ABROAD SPRING TAS
TA must attend all class meetings.
TA will assist students with their class webpages.
TA will assist in the research and organization of Lecture Notes on Bailly Lectures.
TA will communicate class times, and due dates with students on WhatsApp.
TA will coordinate students for class excursions to keep class on schedule.
TA will take photos of class on excursions and upload a selection to Miami in Miami.
TA will track attendance.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION FOR THE FIU HONORS COLLEGE FOR 2021-2022
Honors College peer mentors are responsible for:
Attending all class sessions
Leading ice breakers and group activities
Co-facilitating discussions and class activities with Honors College faculty fellow
Interacting with students outside of class including, but not limited to group chats
The Honors College peer mentor program helps students:
Develop leadership, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
Receive credit for an Honors internship course
Get waived from the Honors engagement requirement during the terms when they are an active Honors College peer mentor
